Tribute to Sri Chinmoy - from Sri Chinmoy Books

(Sri Chinmoy - 27/8/1931 - 11/10/2007)
Many tributes shall be dedicated to this most distinguished son of India's greatest spiritual teachings and traditions: meditation teacher, spiritual Master, humanitarian and world visionary, the revered yogi, Guru Sri Chinmoy. Each a testament of how this gentle, wise, quietly spoken, universally loved, admired and respected spiritual leader has inspired the lives and touched the heart's of so many.As a disciple I have many personal experiences and reflections on how Guru had, is and shall continue to have such a profound influence on my life. I feel that what Guru would want from me now at this time of loss and reflection and for all of his disciples, distinguished friends, admires, well-wishers and the countless numbers of individuals around the world who have been touched by his message and inspired by his example, is our collective joy.
The joy in living life, the joy in searching for, finding then loving and serving God the highest Truth in life. The joy in knowing that the very best within us is fully accessible and achievable. The joy in using time wisely to benefit others. The joy in knowing that all that surrounds us, and all that is within us, is interconnected, deserving of our full understanding, nurturing, protection and pursuit. The joy in knowing that the mind's negativities can be simply overcome, the joy in discovering the inner freedom love and compassion of the spiritual heart and the joy in knowing that our present circumstances are where we can make the most progress.
The joy with the knowledge that we are valued members of an international multi-cultural family, respectfully and patiently working together to transcend our shortcomings, to offer our good-will and joy through life's many pathways in service to our global-family, nation, community, family, colleagues and friends. The joy in humbly offering with no expectations the results of that service to our Highest. The joy in knowing these responsibilities shall fully open the heart and mind to the soul's peaceful reality bringing harmony, outer transformation, fulfilment and ultimately, spiritual enlightenment.
The joy in realising the heights of the absolute-oneness Sri Chinmoy has with God when witnessing his all-embracing God-service life. Which offers us unprecedented insights into the unique and unparalleled heights of this great Master's self-realisation, prayer, meditation, selflessness and outer dynamism. Achieved only when we carry our love of God as high in our aspiring heart's, then offer that purest of love unceasingly, unconditionally, joyfully and self-givingly, in our open-hearted and dedicated service-life to mankind.
Many of us have been in the radiant presence of our teacher, but for those who weren't feel that Sri Chinmoy is planting a tiny seed within the heart of your aspiring soul. And that seed is the seed of infinite potential, physical and spiritual. Knowing this brings the realisation that that small seed shall unerringly and steadily grow, fully blossoming with your dedication and faith, bearing the fruits for a fulfilling and happier future. Holding that vision Guru is with you eternally; the divine breath within your service, dreams and heart's joy.
Amongst many other things whilst in our Master's presence we meditated and prayed with him, we served his ideals, we received prasad and flowers from his hand, we listened devotedly to his divine discourses, we meditated on his music, we watched him when he exercised, we were with him when he graciously honoured and showered his affection on dignitaries, we travelled the world with him, we loved to hear his childhood stories, we performed in his plays, we sang his songs, we recited his poetry, we celebrated his birthday and special anniversaries, we bathed in the font of his loving-kindness, we read his books, we ran in his races, we marvelled at his spiritual insight, we sat with him and we laughed and smiled at his cute jokes and quick wit.
We listened intently to his ashram stories, we watched him paint with vibrant hues, we witnessed his God-sourced power lift unimaginably heavy weights, we were lifted ourselves by him, we meditated at his musical performances, we were deeply moved by the love for his family and in his sadness at their passing, we built two temples for him, we gathered in our thousands to be with him, we received inner nourishment from him, we were flooded with joy when in his presence, we received our spiritual names from him, we watched him sketch countless numbers of soul-birds, we sent him flowers, we were his family his spiritual children, we spent days and days with him, we were inspired by him, we loved him and we followed to the best of our ability his compassionate self-giving example.
Now we have our dearest Gurudev resting at the pinnacle-heights of Heaven's radiant transcendental realms offering his boundless love. While inwardly guiding and quietly encouraging us through our meditations and prayers to fully realise our heart's potential and soul's Delight, by transcending our mind's and body's limitations through our prayerful and self-giving lives. We shall with renewed enthusiasm strive to uphold Guru's unique dream of soulful-oneness through self-transcendence and service in achieving universal brotherhood.
Our heart's have been uplifted and fulfilled in seeing Guru manifest his deep love in helping so many reach greater achievements in their lives. Finding God within their heart's, purpose, true satisfaction and happiness in their lives, all are enriched. Guru was often called the universal man - universal in his love for all; seeing only the best in everyone. From the simplest of men and women, athletes, distinguished Noble laureates, heads of state and musicians all were moved by Sri Chinmoy's love, kindness and appreciation. Such was the appeal of this apostle of peace. He had the most profound capacity for bringing out the heart-goodness in all he met, and leaving them feeling loved, inspired and joyful.
This simple God-loving man served his countrymen and global family with utmost respect, love, sincerity and devotion. He spontaneously, soulfully and fearlessly challenged with all of his physical might, heart's strength, joy, creative ability and determination all that was placed before him. For only one reason: to inspire. To show us all just what can be achieved when we live a prayerful and meditative life in full service to God in mankind through the soul's infinite capacities. He devoted his life to serving his dream of promoting humanity's oneness, harmony and peace.
His tireless example inspired by an inner directive to constantly transcend all that he had previously achieved saw him lift the heart's, spirit and aspiration of God-lovers. His lasting legacy shall endure for all time and be there as a constant reminder to us all, should we ever find ourselves living in the limited and separative mind and feel insecure, sceptical, reluctant, tired, lazy, unsure, unwilling, hesitant or doubtful!
Now we the harmony-dreamers and manifestors of a peaceful earth-dawn, whether Sri Chinmoy's disciples, his admirers or devotees from the great spiritual paths, faiths and religions shall be joined by countless numbers of inspired and aspiring individuals. United by love and our heart's concern to alleviate the suffering in our service to our world-family, so self-givingly and tirelessly demonstrated by Sri Chinmoy's God ordained oneness-heart, we shall work with committed purpose towards achieving lasting harmony and peace on our earth-planet. We shall be the spiritual force behind the cresting waves that flood the shores of our troubled-world with kindness, respect, tolerance, compassion. With our loving hearts and peaceful minds we shall dedicate this service to God for the betterment of ourselves and our global family.
But for now let us reflect. After forty-three years of tireless service to God, Sri Chinmoy who was seventy-six years young when he passed away is now at rest, free from the bindings and pain of the mortal body and the temporal world. It was time, his body was weary. He has ascended after entering Mahasamadhi and discarding the physical sheath. He has returned to the Eternal heart-home of his soul's guidance, the Source of his love, joy and compassion. The Lord that gave him the inspiration, strength, determination and capacity to humbly serve so many and achieve so much embraces him. Gurudev rests now in silent-peace, in the fragrance of the lotus-heart of his Lord Beloved Supreme.
Dearest Guru your eternal message is clear, your sweet-voice resonates in our heart's. The path to harmony lies before us, like a beacon your Light points the way. All is in place for us to manifest your mission Supreme...
“My physical death
Is not the end of my life -
I am an eternal journey.”
- Sri Chinmoy
Is not the end of my life -
I am an eternal journey.”

(This is the last poem published in Sri Chinmoy's lifetime).
Gratitude Guru, gratitude... we carry you in the tranquility of our heart's, we are your humble servers eternally with and for you...
