Sri Chinmoy's meditative poise

The following passages are taken from the hundreds of books written by Sri Chinmoy, each selected for their inspiration and wisdom...

"If you show sincere compassion to someone, then you are bound to receive Light from God. As a matter of fact, the moment you show compassion to someone, you have to feel that it is God's Light which is already flowing through you to the person in need. When you show compassion, it means that Light has descended into your inner being and you are just a channel".

"There is no end to the inner knowledge and inner peace that we can achieve, and there is no end to the satisfaction that we can get. At every moment Infinity is transcending its own infinite Reality. Each time we achieve something new, that is our perfection and our satisfaction. But at the same time a new hunger elevates us to a higher reality."

"A spiritual seeker uses his heart and his soul to see the world within and the world without. He does not use his outer eyes. He has seen time and time again that the vision of his outer eyes is limited, precisely because this vision is guided by the subtle or unconscious operation of the unlit, unillumined mind. It is simply impossible for the outer eyes to identify themselves with the quintessence of beauty. But if we use the heart, immediately we become part and parcel of the substance and essence of what we are seeing."

"When we appreciate somebody's physical beauty, we are appreciating the outer beauty, which is infinitely inferior to the inner beauty. But if we can appreciate the inner beauty first, then we feel that the outer beauty can be appreciated in a divine way as the manifestation of the inner beauty."

"The most beautiful thing on earth is our heart's gratitude to the Supreme, to the divinity in humanity, to God. This is the best and most valuable thing on earth. This is the beauty unparalleled, and it will remain so throughout Eternity."

"We came; we shall return. We came from the Supreme being. To the Supreme Being we shall return. We embody the earth-consciousness and the Heaven-consciousness. The earth consciousness inspires us to meditate on the transcendental Truth in the soul of Heaven. The Heaven-consciousness inspires us to meditate on love and manifest love in the heart of earth."

"Life after death is inevitable. If there were only one life on earth, then it would be impossible for us to accomplish the things that we have to accomplish. God, being all Satisfaction, will not allow us to remain unsatisfied. He will always want us to be fully satisfied. In one incarnation we cannot fulfil our aspiration; we cannot reach the highest. So here we have life and then we pass through a tunnel which we call death. There we take a little rest and then we come back again."

"It is absolutely possible to have complete knowledge of God, provided the aspirant has the most sincere aspiration. Also, the aspirant must have the capacity to hold the knowledge and wisdom of God. Third, the aspirant must have a very high spiritual Master, a God-realised Yogi of the first rank. Fourth, it must be the Will of God that the seeker recieve this complete inner wisdom and knowledge. If all these four conditions are fulfilled simultaneously, then it is absolutely possible."

"Music and the spiritual life go together; one complements the other. Music helps the spiritual seeker to go deep within to get the utmost satisfaction from life, from truth, from reality."

"Each individual has his own music, each movement has its own music. Each time we breathe in and breathe out, there is music."

"A seeker becomes consciously aware of God's presence. He meditates on God and gradually his own consciousness develops to such an extent that he feels God's presence constantly, everywhere."

"In the spiritual life a day dawns when the seeker feels that there is only one question worth asking: "Who am I?"

"There are two types of mind: the human mind or physical mind and the spiritual mind. The physical mind is enmeshed in the gross physical consciousness; therefore, it does not and cannot see the proper truth in its own world. The spiritual mind, which is the illumined or illumining mind, has the capacity to stay in the aspiring heart; therefore, it sees the higher Truth, the Truth of the ever-transcending Beyond, and aspires to grow into this Truth."
