Drawing Soul-birds

Sri Chinmoy discusses the inspiration in his drawings -

“Usually when I draw, I try to be in a contemplative mood. I try to keep my mind as empty, vacant and tranquil as possible. The outer mind is like the surface of the sea. On the surface, the sea is full of waves and surges; it is all restlessness. But when we dive deep below, the same sea is all peace, calmness and quiet, and there we find the source of creativity.”

"My entire art is founded upon a simple, childlike consciousness. These birds remind me of a happiness that is all pervading. I look to this side and see birds, and I look to that side and see birds. No matter in which direction I look. I see birds, and this gives me a childlike happiness."

"Dream is the source. From dream we get freedom, and with freedom we fly like birds in the firmanent of peace and bliss. A divine artist, a seeker-artist, will always paint something that comes from deep within and which will inspire his viewers the way that he is already inspired deep within himself."

Soul-birds

Drawing soul-birds -

"When I draw these birds I am trying to enter into the unlimited Source, which we all have within us. I try to bring this limitless capacity to the fore. I am a man of prayer and meditation. For me birds have a very special sign of significance. They remind me of the soul's infinite freedom. I get tremendous joy each time I draw a bird. Each time I feel a kind of inner freedom.

We all want freedom we all need freedom. The birds teach us to liberate ourselves from earth's bondage. This teaching of the birds is indeed sublime. Inside each of us there is an inner existence that we call the soul. The soul, like a bird, flies in the sky of God's Infinity.

When I draw a bird, I think of the soul - new creation, new hope, new promise, new bliss and new perfection here on earth. We all belong to one family, and we get tremendous joy when we share our heart's love and delight with the other members of our family. So that is what I am trying to do with my drawings.

I feel that when people look at my drawings and find peace, this helps to bring forward their own soul's qualities and thus increase their own wisdom and joy". Inside each of us there is an inner existence that we call the soul. The soul, like a bird, flies in the sky of God's Infinity".
