Soul-bird drawings
In a mere second, Sri Chinmoy with pen in-hand and
a few swirls of the wrist has drawn yet another soul-bird! Each bird
is unique; each capturing a pure and spontaneous moment of
spiritual expression. Never pausing to correct or change each creation,
Sri Chinmoy has amassed over 15 million
of these inspirational soul-birds since starting this amazing artistic
outpouring in December 1991.

Each bird is no more than a few lines, each the manifestation of a Divine entity carrying their own consciousness of joy
and inspiration. Some are tinier than the tiniest, others large and
bold, while others are grouped. As quickly as a blank sheet of paper is
placed before Sri Chinmoy it is filled. To be quickly whisked away, with a
new sheet ready!
Sri
Chinmoy uses a variety of brushes,
sponges and pens to create each masterpiece. He often sits for
hours, drawing hundreds of birds in a session. His focus intent as he dabs brushes or sponges into a large selection of
brightly coloured acrylic paints, or a simple pen to create each bird.
Night or day the inner call to draw more of these delightful birds never seems to diminish.

And of his creation, Sri Chinmoy says,
“Some of my birds are created from human
aspiration. Others are created from divine concentration, meditation
and contemplation. And still others are created from the Delight of my
Lord Beloved Supreme. Each of these birds is a prayer of my heart. These birds represent
unity in multiplicity. Each bird is different; as soon as we think of
one million birds, it is all multiplicity. But as soon as we think of
bird-consciousness, it is one. The bird-consciousness represents the
consciousness of our soul’s freedom.”
"For me, birds have a very special significance; they embody freedom. We see a bird flying in the sky, and it reminds us of our own inner freedom. I am a truth-seeker and a God-lover. I feel that inside each of us there is an inner existence that we call the soul. The soul, like a bird, flies in the sky of God's Infinity. When we think of birds flying in the sky, we are reminded of our own soul-bird flying in the sky of Infinity".
Sri Chinmoy continues,
“Nothing on earth can exist that has not existed in the inner world.
Every capacity that one has comes from some other plane, but there the
capacity is not as manifested or as clear. When it is manifested, it
becomes something solid and palpable.”

“These paintings come to
me spontaneously. I see a streak of light and I follow it. When I
paint, I do not have in mind how many I am going to do. No, I only try
to become a perfect instrument of the Supreme by surrendering to His
Will.”
To see a piece of art
Is a pleasant experience.
To feel a piece of art
Is a permanent realisation.
~Sri Chinmoy
Sri Chinmoy’s soul-bird drawings
have been exhibited in major galleries around the world. Each soul-bird takes flight in the
spiritual heart, soaring within an inner silence, and when seen in
their
thousands leaves the viewer with the feeling of quiet peace,
satisfaction, harmony and an inner thrill.
Sri Chinmoy concludes, "Most of the time when I paint I get a kind of inner joy and a kind of inner discovery. When l paint, I discover something which I did not know before. That is why I get tremendous joy, when l am painting. I feel that
when people look at my drawings and find peace, this helps to bring
forward their own soul’s qualities and thus increase their own wisdom
and joy.”
