If I Could Start My Life Once More
On the occasion of Sri Chinmoy's 70th birthday on the 27th August 2001, a special compilation of seventy poems written by Sri Chinmoy on 20 May 2001, and read at the Peace Meditations at the United nations.
If I could start my life
Once more,
Every day I would become
A new aspiration-heart-bossom.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would definitely not long
For my desire-fulfilment.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would not allow my mind
To torture my heart.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would study the divinity-course
In humanity's heart.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would every day become
A new morning rose
In the garden of the universe.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would remember
That all the mind-tours
Are a sheer waste of time.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would have only
Indomitable faith
And not fractured faith
In God.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would every day take shelter
Under patience-tree.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would not accept any complaint
From my mind.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would not find fault
With any human being,
Either consciously
Or even unconsciously.
If I could start my life
Once more,
My life would lead a caravan
Of God-manifestation-deeds
On earth.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would depend only
On God-reliance,
And never on self-reliance.
If I could strat my life
Once more,
I would never allow myself
To be under the thumb
Of temptation.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would only live in the lands
Of inspiration, aspiration
And dedication.
If I could start my life
Once more,
Even in my dreams
I would not touch
The self-doubt-tree.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would not care to know
The depth of the sea
But only care for
The depth of my heart.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would have a prayer-life
And meditation-heart
To span all distances.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would say and do everything
From my heart of love.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would take God's Presence
In my heart
As my only Home.
If I could start my life
Once more,
I would see how far
I could go ahead,
Instead of looking back.
