Never Grow Old

Never grow old

In this book printed in 1998, Snehashila a student of Sri Chinmoy's presents on the occasion of her 70th birthday a collection of Sri Chinmoy's poems and the inspiration they brought her on the benefits of always staying young. This realisation brought about by her enthusiasm, joy and athletic ability culminated in her competing in the U.S Senior Olympics and being an invitee in the Worlds Master's Games for women over 70 category.

For over four decades Sri Chinmoy has been demonstrating through his own life that a young heart can overcome all the obstacles of advancing age.

Definitely
God does not want
To hear from you
That you are too old.

Only the inner breath
Of aspiration-fire
Can save and illumine
The body of your outer life.

Responsibility
Has lengthened his life
And strengthened his heart.

I know you are busy.
At least, your mind has made you think so.
Even so, can you not find some time
To invite God, your Supreme Guest,
To bless you - your heart and your life -
With His all-illumining and all-fulfilling
Presence?

Your life has to be
A birthless and deathless
Aspiration-adventure.

Do not accept
The nearness of death,
For God Himself
Wants you to enjoy
The fulness of life.

The sweetness of your heart
Is the most precious Wealth
Of God.

Everyday he increases
His wonder-producing faith.
Therefore he saves his life
From doubt's destruction-doom.

God's message to the older generation:
"As long as you remain on earth,
You must realise that your days
Are equally as important
As those of the younger generation,
Whose hearts are all hope
And whose lives are all promise."

True, you have worked hard
For many years.
But you must aspire until the end.
There is no such thing as a pension
In the spiritual life.

Any self-transcendence attempt
Will enable the seeker
To go beyond the circle
Of birth and death.

It is your heart's
Sleepless aspiration
That can build a bridge between
Your life's earth-bound time
And
Your soul's Heaven-free Eternity.

Just love God and serve God
And please God in His own Way.
When the choice Hour strikes,
God himself will book your passage
To His highest Heaven.

He is a true seeker.
Therefore, every day
His soul inspires him
To renew his life's perfection-pledge.

To reach your goal the fastest,
Every day
Make a new attempt;
Every day
Feel that you are a fresh flower.

Every day
God reminds me
Of my Eternity's childhood.

Revive your old-dreams!
God is standing in front of you
Unseen
With His Heart's Satisfaction-Smile.

Be spontaneous like a child.
A child does not try
To acquire anything unnatural.
He does not try to be somebody
Or something else.
He approaches God in a natural way.

A life
Of soulful faith
Is a native
Of Eternity.

He is happy
Because every day he tries
And actually does
A little more than he thinks he can.

If you are always satisfied
With your little self
And your life's span is spent foolishly,
Blame not God
At the end of your journey's close.

A true God-lover
Does not grow older,
He only becomes wiser.

Time does not beckon me.
It is I who beckon time
To carry me
Beyond the limits of time.

Just a simple iota of love
Is all that is needed
To please our Beloved Supreme
Every day, every hour, every second,
And for this
No prerequisite is needed.

Incapacity comes from idleness.
Idleness is the acceptance
Of death's invitation.

If you are longing
For a new life,
Tell death
You have cancelled
Your appointment.

You have practically completed
Your life-book.
Now pray to God to write
The last few pages
So that you will be able
To take pride
In telling the world
That you and God
Are co-authors of your life-book.

Death is not
And can never be
Life's final examination.

Give what you have
And what you are.
Then you will be blessed
With new mornings
In new worlds.

Do you know
That your soul has been waiting
For a thousand years
To become an unconditional
God-lover?

He prepared himself anew every day
For his Supreme Lord's arrival
With his heart's soulful prayer
And his life's peaceful meditation.
