Mind Poems

Poetry by Sri Chinmoy
The ordinary human mind
Is a container.
You can fill it
With good thoughts
Or bad thoughts.
It is up to you.
I do not change
My thinking process.
Yet I want to live
My own life.
Is it possible?
Each positive thought
Has the atom-bomb-capacity
To destroy the negative in us.
Each negative thought
Has the atom-bomb-capacity
To destroy our whole world.
Each thought is an important rung
Of the life ladder:
It either helps us to go up
Or forces us to go down.
If you want to become
God's ambassador,
Then the most important thing to do
Is to watch the quality
Of your thought-life.
Each good, pure and useful thought
Is a solid power
For our daily use.
Love:
Discoverer of good thoughts.
Oneness:
Fulfiller of good thoughts.
Satisfaction:
Perfector of good thoughts.
The human mind finds it
Quite impossible to believe
That it is an immigrant
From the ignorance-world.
The mind of man
Is an unlit lamp
That undervalues
His heart's blazing sun.
As your mind has the power
To command your life-movements,
Even so your heart
Must develop the power
To control, command and transform
Your mind.
Our thoughts make us know
What we unmistakably are.
Our deeds make others know
What we undeniably are.
At all the precious moments
Of humanity's life,
The mind is tormented
By uncomely thoughts.
Just because the busy thoughts
Outnumber the quiet thoughts,
Today's mental world
Is unlit and confused.
No other fault of yours
Can be as detestible and ignominious
As that of your mind
Loaded with others
Precarious faults.
Each undivine thought
Has strong connections
With invisible chains.
