Poetry by Sri Chinmoy
When capacity and opportunity
Come together,
Life makes the fastest progress.
How can one explain
The Fragrance
Of God’s exquisite Heart?
You must continue
Until you have reached
The very end.
Who am I?
I am
An eternal seeker.
The outer life has no meaning
If it is not supported
By the inner world.
A soul can be at once
Eternally old
And infinitely new.
I wish to live
Between my sweetness-heart
And my kindness-life.
Each moment with my Master
Is unimaginably significant.
Every human being
Is God’s dearest friend.
Nature
Is
God’s outer Beauty.
Compassion
Is
God ‘s inner Beauty.
Never forget
Even one happiness-dream
Of yours.
A real spiritual Teacher
Is a compassion-wave
From the ocean of silence.
The soul
Unfolds
The heart.
The heart
Unfolds
The life.
Move forward!
Energise your mind
With determination.
In every age,
God has the same Message
For humanity:
“Give and give,
And then become!”
The mind does not create impurity -
The mind receives impurity
From the outer world.
All the divine qualities
Are in the heart.
We just have to bring them
To the fore.
World-harmony
Should be taken
As a world-prayer
On a daily basis.
May my heart
Own the fragrance
Of sincerity.
May my mind
Own the beauty
Of humility.
The voice of an unaspiring mind
Is louder than the loudest -
Meaningless in every sense.
If there is no willingness,
Then even God
Cannot feed us.
Our hearts are, indeed,
The living flames
Of our Lord Supreme.
Only the heart
Can create
A new joy.
Only positive thoughts
Can change the course
Of the wrongdoing mind.
A self-giving life
Is mankind’s first step
Towards God.
There is no such thing
As effortless progress.
How significant
Is a dream of my Lord Supreme
In the small hours of the morning!
God has given you many chances.
You can at least give the world around you
One more chance!
We use our inner strength
To illumine
The darkness of our mind
And also
The darkness of the world.
A simplicity-mind, a sincerity-heart
And a self-giving life -
These are the things
That my Lord expects from me most.
My Lord,
Your childlike simplicity
Has captured my entire being.
Therefore, I am all gratitude to You
At every moment.
