Inner Struggle Poems

Poetry by Sri Chinmoy

The snare of imperfection
Is strong.
The snare of unwillingness to change
Is even stronger.

No darkness can ever stop
My progress.
It is my unwillingness to transform
Darkness into light
That has stopped my progress.

When the pride of a human being
Far surpasses
The beauty of his self-giving,
His life no longer remains a playground.
It becomes a battleground.

If you constantly indulge
Your incapacities,
You will be forced to climb
The stairway of despair.

I shall end my life-song
With a million sighs
Unfulfilled,
Unappreciated
And
Even unheard.

Loneliness has mercilessly attacked mankind
And made half the world suicidal.
Alas, when will each human being realise
That its inner and outer nothingness
Can easily be transformed into
Plentitude without and infinitude within?

Only the unflinching determination
Of the heart
Can save you from your mind's
Aching loneliness.

Constant anxiety,
Constant fear,
And constant suspicion
Took him,
Long before he was due to arrive,
To the right place:
The cemetry.

The mind that does not want
To change
And the life that does not want
To grow
Have already contracted a deadly disease:
Suspicion.

Fear and doubt
Never want to listen to anybody
Even though they are tortured
Not only by others
But also by themselves.

Mine are shattered dreams,
Yet
I shall go on.
Mine is a punctured heart,
Yet
I shall carry on.

If you think that you have problems
With your mind,
Then immediately try to feel
The ready-made solutions
Inside your heart.

Argument and enlightenment
Purposely and eternally remain
Strangers to each other.
