Spiritual Awareness Poems

Poetry by Sri Chinmoy

As I can see
What I know,
Even so I must become
More than I know.

I am not needed
To say the right thing.
I am only required
To be the right thing.

For your true self
There is no need to hide.
For your false self
There is no place to hide.

Inner awareness
Brings enthusiasm
And enthusiasm
Brings more inner awareness.

Who or what
Can and will condemn you,
If not your own
Deplorable mistaken belief?

Do not distort anything.
If ever you distort anything,
Then remember,
You are torturing
Your own universal Reality-breath.

First be absolutely sure
That you know the truth
Before you talk to others
About the truth.

Be not afraid
Of destructive actions by others.
But be afraid
Of your own reaction to them.

To escape wild criticism
Say nothing, but be something.
I mean, be something
That you have never been before.

I tell you,
You will hit and hurt yourself
If you fail to learn
How to bend.

Unless I become a positive voice
To myself,
My heart shall remain
An utterly disappointed hope.

Love the divine in yourself
Infinitely more
Than you have been doing,
So you will not have to imitate
The human in others.

I accept my own faults
To purify my mind.
I accept others' faults
To perfect my heart.

One of my constant problems:
I always think
About others
But never care
For others.

Nobody wants to know
Who you are.
Nobody wants to know
What you are.
But everybody wants to know
If you have something nice
To say about them,
If you are really eager
To know all about them.

You are in no way obliged
To perfect the world.
You are in no way obliged
To see perfection in the world.
But you are definitely obliged
To perfect yourself.

When you speak ill of others,
You have already exposed
Your own inner weakness
To the outer world.

Your mind excels in power.
Your heart excels in love.
Your mind may govern today's world.
But your heart will eventually and permanently
Conquer tomorrow's world.

What kind of goodness is it
If you keep it always on guard?
What kind of forgiveness is it
If you keep it always unused?

When your good qualities
Go and touch others,
Their good qualities come forward
To receive from you.

There are so many ways
To see the divine in yourself
And not the undivine.
Do not think of
What you were yesterday
Or even what you are today,
But only of what
You want to become tomorrow.

Inwardly send your soul's good will
To everybody and to every place
In God's creation.
Your good-will will definitely
Be echoed and re-echoed
Everywhere in every heart,
And be received of course,
According to the world's receptivity.

You want to know where I live
Most of the time.
I live most of the time
In the silence-garden of my soul's music
Where no disharmony can ever eclipse.

You are trying to liberate the world.
Before you can do that,
You have to raise
Your own spiritual standard
High, very high.

One conscious soul is more than enough
To arouse countless unconscious souls
From a comatose life of dark amnesia.
