Sri Krishna

The life of Sri Krishna - (3228BC - 3102BC)
Lord
Krishna, born over 5,000 years ago was the eighth son of the royal family of Mathura. Due to political unrest he was smuggled
out of the city as a young boy and raised by foster parents. As he grew Krishna became the
head of a community of cow-herders, taking the role of protector of the
local people. In his late teens he returned to Mathura overthrowing the evil
King, re-instating the King's father as the rightful heir.
Lord
Krishna then joined the King's court as a noble Prince, becoming close
friends with Arjuna and other Pandava princes, who were his cousins.
What pursued shortly after was an epic battle between two sections of Royalty, the Pandavas and
Kauravas where Krishna had cousins on both sides. In the pursuing battle Krishna was the
charioteer for the master archer and warrior, Arjuna. Arjuna at first did not want to fight because he too had many relations on the enemy side. The advice and stories given by
Krishna to Arjuna before the battle about the war, a warrior's duty, the nature of life and the role of the Cosmic Gods is known as the classic text, the Bhagavad Gita.
The
Bhagavad Gita is a passage of 701 verses, revered as the sacred text of
Hindu philosophy. It records the conversation spoken by Krishna to
Arjuna where Krishna proclaims himself as God, describing his mystical
experiences, and showing Arjuna his cosmic forms.
Many years later Krishna left the royal court and wandered into the
forest to sit under a tree to meditate. A hunter mistook his partly
covered foot thinking it was a dear, fired off an arrow and mortally
wounded the great warrior, Krishna.
