Death and Reincarnation - review

Death and Reincarnation

The very mention of death instils in most, fear. We feel that death in the end of a loved one's journey, the destroyer of all hopes. In the West  death is normally a subject that is rarely spoken about. When death strikes in our immediate circle, we are overcome with a sense of permanent loss, and with an intense awareness of our own limitations and mortality. For sure we cannot escape death, but we can escape the fear of death?

In this book Sri Chinmoy opens the reader to the traditional understandings of death in eastern philosophies.  Death a brief respite through many lifetimes, is a normal and natural part of our continuous spiritual evolution towards life's ultimate goal, self-realisation.

The simplicity and immediacy of Sri Chinmoy's words clarify our doubts and fears introducing an awareness that death should now be looked at in a new light, ideally one of a quiet transition, in stillness and in peace.

This is a very powerful and deeply moving book, one that should be read by all. In simple question and answer format Sri Chinmoy answers question asked by his students on a whole range of subjects about what is death, what our awareness should be as we approach death, the support we can give our loved one's as they approach this natural conclusion to their lives, our onward journey and our re-appearance on the earth-plane in our next incarnation.

Sri Chinmoy describes death as a great pilgrimage. Death is a reality that is occuring around us everyday, but it is not until it strikes someone we know does its finality, at least in the physical aspect, have such a profound effect on us. This transition can now have a new understanding -

From the book:

Death is natural
Nothing natural can be detrimental.
Death is rest.
Rest is strength in disguise for a further adventure.

~Sri Chinmoy
