Passages from The Master and the Disciple
From the Introduction:
What is a genuine spiritual Master, and what kind of wisdom does he
embody? Who are his disciples and what force compels them to follow
him? In this remarkable collection of writings, spiritual master Sri
Chinmoy illumines for us the deeply moving dynamic that binds the
spiritual master or Guru and his disciple.
This dynamic is eloquent with love, and testifies to a transforming
vision of life. Sri Chinmoy's words reveal a higher spiritual truth
whose pursuit is chartered by the odyssey that spiritaul Master and
disciple undertake together. The nature of that odyssey deserves our
understanding.
~
The Guru sees in his disciple the very image of God; so he is all sacrifice to the disciple. The disciple sees and feels in his Guru the only shelter of his limitations; so he is all love for his Guru.
A real spiritual Master is he who has attained God-realisation.
Everyone is one with God, but the real spiritual Master has established
his conscious oneness with God.
You make a mistake when you take the Master as only a person, as the
human body. You have to feel that the real Master is inside the
physical.
A God-realised spiritual Master is not someone with wings and a halo to
identify him. He is normal, except that in his inner life he has
abundant Peace, Light and Bliss. So if you come to a spiritual Master
expecting something other than boundless Peace, Light and Bliss and
Power, then you will be disappointed.
If you have an inner connection with a genuine Master, it most likely
has existed for many incarnations. So the moment you see that
particular Master, you will get boundless, overwhelming joy. Your whole
being will be surcharged with inner joy and light. You will feel that
your life has at last found its source in your Master.
