Sri Yukteswar
After the death of his wife, Sri Yukteswar entered the Swami order and devoted himself to studying and teaching. It was a number of years before he met his Guru, Lahiri Mahasaya who initiated him in the principles of Kriya Yoga. Amongst his disciples the most prominent was Paramahansa Yogananda, who devotes many passages to his beloved Guru in his book ‘The autobiography of a Yogi‘. Sri Yukteswar was a great Vedic astrologer, producing a new astrological chart and only wrote two books – ‘The Holy Science‘ and a commentary on the first six chapters of the Bhagavad-Gita. The Holy Sciencedescribes the union of the scientific principles underlying Yoga and the Christian Bible. He renounced all earthly possessions as a Swami and travelled for many years with his Guru. He lived out his life in the Puri ashram, where he died seated in the lotus position.
