Fostering a child's spiritual awareness

How unique and precious are our children. Ideally each will carry the world into a new era with new realisations for humanity's peaceful co-existence and each shall then manifest their dream in a unique, powerful and enthusiastic way.

Adults have a responsibility to see that these unique dreams are fulfilled. A child will grow within its family holding the experiences its mother and father introduced them to. Each family therefore has the responsibility to nurture their child's inherent sweetness, spontaneity, love, joy and the willingness in the self-giving of their spiritual heart.

Each concerned parent has the responsibility of fostering their child's spiritual life, watching them grow up with a love of God and a heart of joy and concern. Only then will that child's natural affection and trust be able to see its own dream realities for a oneness world fully blossom as an adult.

Humanities peaceful co-existence is dependent on children growing in a loving and nurturing family environment. One that will pave the way for international cooperation based on respect, concern and appreciation for others spiritual and religious beliefs, their cultures and customs.

Children see no barriers they live in the heart because they are all heart. Adults create barriers because of mistrust, suspicion, insecurity, jealousy and fear. All of these imperfections stem from the limited reality of the physical mind. Children only know love, cooperation, eagerness, confidence, an enquiring nature, kindness and sharing.

In this troubled word millions of children are growing up with death, fear, hate and hunger imposed upon them by adults. These horrid realities are depriving these children of a normal, carefree, happy and fulfilled life. They shall grow up conditioned by hate, suspicion, mistrust, violence and death. For them this world is not one of hope it is one of great sadness and fear.

Sri Chinmoy the meditation teacher says, (1) "God's creation is like a lotus or a rose. Each petal is unique in its own way. A child is an especially significant part of God's creation. Each child is bringing down a new message from God, which was not known before. On today's child depends tomorrow's future. Only a child has the capacity to feel that every day is a new dawn. Only a child is inspired to give something to the world every day".

As adults we have taken the responsibility of bringing children into the world. Remembering that each is like a beautiful blossom slowly opening petal by petal. Each year sees another petal fully open bringing fresh delight and inspiration, until finally all petals have fully blossomed enabling the child now as an adult, to step out into the world with an open heart and willing life ready to offer their spontaneity, enthusiasm, beauty and uniqueness to the world. Then we shall see the dawn of a new era where respect, peace and cooperation shall unite humankind.
